Rape Survivor Assaulted by the TSA

Celeste was a rape survivor and a seasoned air traveler, who like most people on this list and of the world, wasn't aware of the pat-down changes that occurred in October of 2010 (before the absolute shit-storm that's been the last few weeks, of course).

She flew to Chicago knowing exactly how to go through security, this being the old-fashioned metal detector and the pat-down avoiding the face and genitals and hair. When she came back, she felt like she got assaulted all over again.

She had previously tried to avoid the full-on body scanners because "why should I have to let people see me naked to get on a plane?... This is my body, I've worked many years to re-establish the feeling that I'm allowed to have control over my body after being raped. Even the thought of that leaves me feeling dirty and vulnerable again." So it's very, very hard to imagine the crushing feeling when a completely random person strokes her fingers all over her vagina without warning."

It was made even worse by all the TSA agents approaching the pat-down by yelling "we have an opt-out here" when she refused to go in the body scanners. And then she was examined by a man, a breach in protocol since TSA agents can only inspect members of their own sex. When he patted her crotch, she broke down and prayed. The feeling of being felt like that in public crushed her will to fly again for a long time and convinced the people behind her to go for the body scanners, deciding to get radiated instead of felt.

TSA Exposes College Girl's Breasts to Public

Back in a more innocent time when the TSA pat-down was only restricted to racial profiling, it was referred to as an "extended search". However, the "random" singling out was no different. And no less humiliating.

A young, college-aged woman, remaining anonymous for privacy's sake, had to undergo said search in order to get to her plane.

After being frisked all over her body, the TSA pulled her blouse all the way down, exposing her breasts for the entire world to see.

She was so embarrassed she had to leave immediately.

Threatening to escort her out of the airport for failing to comply with standard procedure, and to add insult to injury, all the TSA officials laughed and made jokes about the incidents until she was ready to come back to the security screening area.

Eventually, she got through and filed an administrative complaint. Naturally and as expected, TSA didn't respond.

So now they are dealing with a good old fashioned sexual harassment lawsuit. These days, it wouldn't be a surprise to find lawyers being over-worked as people's hair, genitals and upper thighs at the airport.

Meg McLain

Returning home from Florida, Meg McLain found herself hitting a snag while trying to go through TSA procedures. Out of the six or so people in line to get through security, she was "randomly" selected to go through the body scanners (also known as "pornoscopes" in some circles).

When she said she wasn't comfortable using it, instead of acknowledging her discomfort, they gave her pat-down. Like any sensible person would, she started asking questions about the usefulness of the procedure and why this had to be done (and done so vigorously). The TSA got more and more difficult to deal with until finally, they summoned a dozen cops and handcuffed her to a chair, because she was "difficult" in not wanting a stranger to touch her entire body or to have memorialized naked pictures of her insides.

While TSA officers discussed what to do with her, the original pat-down person leaned in front of her face and abused her power of authority by ripping McLain's boarding pass in her face. Just like that.

It showed that the TSA preferred brutal abuse over any sense of logic and revealed their hopes of convincing the people they can abuse them for "the greater good."

Later on, McLain was escorted out of the airport.
