I Am the Flag of the United States of America
My name is Old
Glory
I fly on top of the worlds tallest buildings. I stand watch
on Americas Hall Of Justice. I fly majestically over the great
institutions of learning. I stand guard with the greatest military
power in the world.
Look up, see me, see my bold colors of red,
white and blue. I stand for peace, honor, truth, and justice. I
stand for freedom for all people.
I am confident, I am bold, I am
proud. When I am flown with my fellow flags, my head is held a
little higher, my colors a little truer, and a little brighter.
I
am recognized all over the world. I am saluted, respected, revered,
loved, and when necessary, feared!
I have fought in every battle
our country has fought for over two hundred years. I flew proud at
the Battle of Bunker Hill, Valley Forge, Gettysburg, San Juan Hill,
the trenches of France, the Argonne Forest, the beaches of Normandy,
Guadalcanal, Okinawa, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and scores of
places long forgotten by all but those who were there with me.
I
was there!
I led my Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors, and Marines into
battle. I have followed them, watched over them. They loved me and
what I stood for. I spurred them on to great feats of bravery,
heroism, and self-sacrifice. I was on a small hill in Iwo Jima,
dirty, battle worn and tired, but my marines cheered me and I flew
proud. I have been soiled, burned, torn, and trampled on the streets
of countries that I have helped to set free. It does not hurt. I am
not a symbol of war; I am a symbol of democracy and peace.
I have
been a silent witness to some of Americas finest hours and greatest
achievements, but my finest hours come when I am torn into strips of
cloth to be used as bandages for my comrades wounded on the field of
battle; when I am
flown at half mast to honor those that have made
the supreme sacrifice; or when I am folded and placed in the arms of
a grieving parent at the graveside of a fallen
son or daughter,
then I am most proud!
My name is Old Glory. Long may I
wave.
Dear God, for the sale of your world, long may I wave.
I
am the flag of the United States of America!
